Mader's
was founded in 1902; before the Wright brothers first flight and before Henry Ford’s Model T. In 1902, A porterhouse steak or 1/2 roast duckling dinner, were priced at twenty cents, or six for $1.00. Lunch was four cents, but if you drank two steins of beer at three cents for one stein, or a nickel for two steins, your lunch was free.
The tables and chairs were wooden and rickety, the walls and bar eneven. The ceiling was tin, a fan provided the air circulation. Often the rugged men who frequently Mader’s became inebriated, and stumbled out. There were no automobiles, so there were no laws regarding “blood alcohol levels”..
Suburbs hadn’t been invented yet so men lived near their work place and walked, or rode a horse to work. The majority of Milwaukee’s population in 1902 were German immigrants and their beverage of choice was beer. This was the era when “Bucket Boys” toting a board dangling a half dozen pails of frothy beer, made the rounds through office buildings. Their refreshing goods were passed around to all – the early beer capitals natural answer to today’s coffee break.

Simple Cafe.
We get up every morning knowing that every moment matters. Everything that we do matters to all of us all for all time.
How do you inspire people to change the world? Simple Food Group celebrates everyone’s story.
We are in business to change the world one bite at a time. And it starts with people.
We believe that if we treat each other with genuine kindness and respect and if we are good stewards of what we have been provided; then we will change the world. This is why we are in business. It just so happens that we operate a couple of cafes and a bakery.
It starts with people. The people who grow and raise our ingredients. The people who work in our cafes and the bakery. The customers who make it all sustainable. Everyone has a story and their stories become those of Simple Food Group.
We want to change how people treat each other, how people eat, how we take care of what we have been provided, how people run their businesses.
Each ingredient we use in our food and baked goods comes with a story. We know the stories because we know our farmers and producers. You can learn their stories on our Farmers page. It is why we are in business. It is the way we think business should be conducted. We believe that we can change lives by how we conduct our business, how we live our daily lives.

THE RUMPUS ROOM
EAT, DRINK, GATHER, AND LEARN
This was the vision set out for the private room and event space at The Rumpus Room – aptly named The Room @ Rumpus.
The result is a not-too-big, not-too-small, refreshingly eclectic and casual space that’s less formal and more comfortable than your typical event space. With its copper-colored walls, tables made from reclaimed wood, and rustic lighting, The Room offers a warm, laid-back atmosphere for dining and gathering. It’s quiet, private and separate from The Rumpus Room, features its own bar and entrance, and includes chalkboards, TVs, and bookshelves that are ideal for tastings and classes.
The Room offers guests a space to call their own for the evening, whether they’re hosting a business or social function or attending one of The Rumpus Room’s special events or classes.
The capacity for a seated dinner or a classroom-style event is 50 people, while the room can comfortably accommodate up to 70 people for a cocktail event. Other spaces available include the charcuterie area in the front of the restaurant, which has a capacity of about 25 people, as well as the full restaurant, which has a capacity of 90, or up to 150 if utilizing the bar and the charcuterie area.

WE ARE…
Goodkind is a restaurant and corner tavern tucked away in Milwaukee’s Bay View neighborhood, near the shores of Lake Michigan. Taking a modern approach to Old-World dining, we specialize in rotisserie meats, local produce, and house-made cocktails.
We opened June 2014 in an old, beloved residential building that had previously housed businesses as varied as a pizza parlor, blacksmith shop and of course, a typical Milwaukee neighborhood tap. Goodkind is the new epoch in a long, rich . It’s a responsibility we take very seriously. We’ve reinvented our inherited space to feel comfortable, timeless, and energizing.
Our casual approach focuses on the experience above all else. We pride ourselves on taking off the white linens and making dinner fun and approachable without sacrificing quality or elegance.
AT Goodkind, we don’t just focus on a delicate3 oaring of food and drink. We strive to create a truly symbolic relationship between our kitchen and bar.
